Ambleside Online Curriculum Review

Ambleside Online is a free curriculum that is based on Charlotte Masons' educational philosophy. The website includes booklists for grades K-11 and weekly schedules for 1st - 11th grades. Year 12 is in the works.

AO's schedules are based on a 36-week school year. The program uses many resources that can be found for free online, at a local public library, or through inter-library loan. Instead of using textbooks, the program relies on "living books" - books written by authors who are passionate about the subject of their writing.

The program teaches through narration, copywork, dictation, art appreciation/picture study, music appreciation/composer study, nature study, folksongs, hymns, poetry, Shakespeare and Plutarch. Parents will need to add math to complete the program.

In addition to the resources available on the website, there is also a Yahoo group that supports parents who use AO.
