All About spelling is a complete spelling program based on the Orton-Gillingham Method of teaching; first developed to help students with dyslexia and similar disabilities.
The program offers step-by-step instructions and and a multi-sensory approach to teach spelling. Because of the thoroughness of this program it can also be used to teach beginning reading.
Letters and phonograms are taught using special color-coded letter tiles and by writing the phonograms down. Students also use phonogram, rule, and word cards. Lessons are taught aloud and flashcards reviewed orally. Students speak the phonograms to themselves as they write them and handle the cards during teaching times. Because students use many of their senses to learn in this program, it is suitable for many types of learners.
All About Spelling is meant to be used daily. Currently there are five levels, with a sixth level still to be released. Materials include a teacher's manual and student material packet. The student material packet is available separately for extra students. A starter kit that includes the letter tiles, magnets, and the Phonograms CD is also available, but individual levels of the program need to be purchased separately.
This program is suitable for both young learners and for more mature students in need of spelling remediation. Help for placing a student in the correct level is available on the website.
