A Coloring Book of Bible Proverbs

by Sharon
(Leavenworth. Kansas)

Product: A Coloring Book of Bible Proverbs
Subject: Bible
Levels Used: toddler to upper elementary
Dates Used: approximately 2005 to the present

Likes: This is so much more than just another coloring book. The price is right. One book costs $2.50, however, four or more books are just $1.75 each.

These are great for making into posters, though you would have to either buy two books or choose between one of two proverbs printed on opposite sides of the page.

The drawings are simple, but fit each proverb very well. The people are all modestly dressed as if the women and girls were going to church and the men were preparing to work in the tool shed. It reminds me of a simpler time and it works well for the proverbs used.

My favorite? Oh I love so many of them. There is the boy sitting by his bed with the Bible opened to the book of Daniel. Behind him, neatly arranged on his shelves, are various science books, a math book, a world atlas and some encyclopedias. The proverb below the picture is Proverb 1:7, "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction. Another shows a girl counting some money. The accompanying verse is Proverbs 3:9, "Honour the Lord with all thy substance, and with the first fruits of thine increase." My favorite might be the two girls sitting together on a bench. One has tears on her face and the other has her arm folded around her friend. The verse is Proverbs 27:9, "Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart; so doth the sweetness of a man's friend by hearty counsel." I could go on and on, though. Each page is so precious.

Obviously, the version used is the King James version. We use the pages to stretch vocabulary, support Bible lessons and decorate our house with good reminders of how we should think and behave. I have even used them simply to keep a young child quiet while I studied the Bible with the older children.

Dislikes: Call me greedy, but I wish there were more than 30 proverb pages. I also wish they were printed with proverbs only on one side so that could become posters easier.
