A Reason for Handwriting Review

by Carletta
(McKinney, Texas)

We used A Reason for Handwriting, Levels Kindergarten and Manuscript A from 2006-2008.

Likes: A Reason for Handwriting is simple to use. The K level introduces one letter per lesson and includes a corresponding picture for the student to color.

Level A (1st Grade) begins with review of letters and numbers, then progresses to daily lessons that are based on scripture.

Every day, the student practices writing letters and words that are included in the weekly Bible verse. At the end of the week, he or she writes the Bible verse on border paper to share with friends or family members.

My two school age children have enjoyed this program. It is a great way to help children share scripture with others, and I like to incorporate as much reading of scripture into our homeschool as possible!

Dislikes:

I wish the program included a few extra border sheets.

Not a Good Fit for My Family

by Denise
(Dallas TX )

We liked that God was in this program and loved the Border Sheets.

My son reached a point where he did not want to do the cursive, and we felt this did not fit his learning style. We like a more to the point, gentler way to learn.

We used this for 2 and 3 grade for cursive only. We now use Cursive Connections which teaches the child to first connect the letters.

You have to learn simple tasks first to master a skill, and I did not feel this program provided this for my family.

Love the Scriptures and Coloring Pages!

by Susan S.
(Ohio)

Product: A Reason for Handwriting
Levels Used: Level K and Level A
Dates Used: 2007 - 2009

Likes: My children have really enjoyed this program! Handwriting is my daughter's favorite subject, but my son is less than enthusiastic. However, the coloring pictures with each worksheet in Level K helped, because he really enjoyed that part. Also, Level A is broken down into 5 exercises per week, and are short enough that he doesn't get bogged down by it. Also, copying the verse onto the border sheets was fun for him (again, with coloring!), and it encouraged him to do neat work. I love that the exercises are scripture verses.

Dislikes: Can't think of any.

Transition Workbook

by Angie
(Harrisburg, IL)

We used the Transition workbook from August 2008- June 2009.

Likes: The lessons were easy and my daughter picked up the concept of cursive writing fast. It was easy to explain and easy for her to follow.

Dislikes: I wish the Teacher's Guide wasn't for the entire series. I wished there was one mainly for the Transition workbook.
