Alpha Omega Life Pacs

by Ali
(Independence, Oregon, USA)

We used Alpha Omega Life Pacs for 1st grade math, language arts, science, and history.

When we first started homeschooling, I was under the assumption that homeschooling was doing school (like the public schools) at home. I have come to realize that homeschooling is more like home learning, and doesn't have to be like the public schools.

The first things that we bought was the Alpha Omega life pacs. It went good for the first couple of months, but my son quickly grew bored with them.

I liked the fact that all of the life pacs were easy to use, and everything was laid out for you. But that was the extent of it.

The lessons are pretty dry, and my son became bored. It was the same thing every day. If you like a text book approach, then I recommend the life pacs. If you are more of a relaxed homeschooler, these aren't the books for you.

Easy & Solid!

by Victoria
(The Colony, TX)

We used Horizons & Lifepac for all subjects for K-1st grade from 2007-present.

Likes: I love the ease of preparation that comes with textbook style schooling. Makes my day easy and the lessons are plenty for my kids to get a solid basic education.

Dislikes: The books are hard to work with from mid-point on, however, the pages are serrated and easy to tear out.

Phonics

by Penny
(Louisiana)

I used the Alpha Omega curriculum phonics program with one of my daughters about 4 years ago. I didn't like it at all. I didn't feel that it was enough phonics for her to learn to read.

With this program there is not much explanation for the student and teacher. I have also used the math for the 4th and 8th grades and English for the 4th grade. There's not enough explanation for the student to do the work and understand it.

I would have added lots of examples and more explanations to this program.

British Literature

Subject: British Literature
Levels Used: Middle to High School
Dates Used: 2007-2008

Likes: Laid out and written very well. Nice overview of British authors. Great for any child that likes to read.

Dislikes: I almost wish I had gotten the computerized version. It would have been easier to keep up with the grading.

Math Lifepacs

by Dorothy H
(Jacksonville, FL)

Subject: Math
Level: K
Dates Used: 2006-2007 School Year

Likes: Teacher's book is very well laid out. If you are uncomfortable teaching math, it pretty much scripts it for you.

Dislikes: This curriculum was not for me or my daughter. My daughter became bored with it rather quickly. Once she grasped a concept she wanted to move on. The repetition drove both of us crazy.
