Draw Write Now

by Shannon
(Cincinnati, OH)

We used Draw Write Now, Book 3.

Likes: This has been a fun book to use. My daughter enjoyed drawing the pictures and writing the sentences that go along with it. She is only 5 so I think she will enjoy it even more as she gets better at drawing the pictures, But i think she does a great job. I let her look through the book, pick the picture she wants to draw and then we talk about it. I like that it practices handwriting too. It is a fun way to learn. I plan to purchase the other books in this series in the future.

Likes: We like the versatility of the subject matter in the books. This allows us to choose subject that correspond with daily events or something we may be reading about. Even pre-writers have fun with trying to draw the pictures.

Dislikes: None really.

Likes: The books are colorful, inexpensive and cover a multitude of subjects.

Dislikes: I didn't realize that you don't do the drawings and writings in the actual book! You need to buy a separate notebook.

Simple and Fun!

by Jessica
(Texas)

Levels Used: K-4
Dates Used:2006-2008

Likes: I love Draw Write Now! It's simple, fun and a great way to motivate your child to do his/ her best. Depending on ability, I have my children write one or more sentences a day. When their handwriting is done (and done well), they get to draw the picture.

We used the horse (from book 1) as a basis for a picture that my daughter drew and submitted to a contest. She won second place. My son drew a rabbit and he received an honorable mention.

Dislikes: I dislike that we don't own all the books yet! :)

Gentle and Easy

by Amy B.
(New York)

Levels Used:K - 3
Dates Used:2005 - 2008

Likes: My son has really enjoyed these books. We were first introduced to them at our homeschool co-op.

I find this approach to drawing very gentle and easy for a younger student to use. I would recommend buying the Draw Write Now student book as well if you desire to have your child do the copywork/handwriting portion. My son used this as handwriting practice for 2nd grade. He would choose an animal to draw in pencil, color it in, then copy 1 or 2 sentences below his drawing.

Dislikes: None!
