Easy Grammar is Easy!

by Lisa
(Embden, ME, USA)

We used levels 2/3 & 3/4 of Easy Grammar from 2004 to present.

Likes: The program truly is easy. I was introduced to this by a friend who had been homeschooling lots longer than I.

The beginning level (2/3) has a simple one page format marked "Day 1, Day 2" etc. It gently teaches capitalization, parts of speech & punctuation. The next level, 3/4, covers the same sequence but at a harder level. It truly is an easy way to teach grammar & requires very little on the part of mom/teacher in preparation or intensive study time. You can open the book & go.

Dislikes: Level 2/3 asks for the student to combine sentences. It would be nice if there were primary lines on the page. I just draw these in for my children. Even though this is not a teacher intensive program, I would like a bit more instruction from time to time on how to teach - especially in the 3/4 level.

NOTE: Easy Grammar has since done away with the double grades (2/3, 3/4) & made them single grade levels.

Student-Led with Plenty of Review

by G. Marie
(Ohio)

I have used all levels this program with my two oldest (grades 7 and 10) and plan on using it with my youngest (grade 3). I like that it is primarily student-led, and there is a lot of review. I feel my oldest is very competent in grammar - frequently correcting MY grammar (not always appreciated!) I will continue to use this program with my other children.

I also buy the teacher book for my students to use. They just cover up the answers on the teacher's page with a piece of heavy paper or card stock to do their work. It makes correcting easier. Sometimes they also correct their own work.

Like the prepositional approach!

by Guinever
(Lexington, KY)

Levels Used: 3
Dates Used: 2007-2008

Likes: I really like the prepositional approach where the student learns to identify prepositions first, then by eliminating all those, the other parts of speech are easier to find. I found this easy to teach and my child found it easy to learn. Lessons are short but he still got the concepts down. He scored quite high in language arts on the Stanford, (due in part to Easy Grammar).

I will definitely use this again when I need a grammar program. I'm currently using Prima Latin which is heavy on grammar so moving on with Easy Grammar would be duplicating content.

Dislikes: I wish it included diagramming (maybe it does at different levels).

Easy Grammar is too EASY

by Pam Taylor
(Orange County, CA)

Levels Used: 4-6th grades
Dates Used: 2004-06

Likes: Reasonably priced, easy for the teacher, not much complaining from the kids.

Dislikes: Incomplete program. Do not let this be the only book you use for grammar lessons with your children. When they say "Easy" Grammar, that is exactly what they mean. Ok for a supplement to another program.

I'm Thrilled!

by Kim

It took us three programs to get it right, but I am finally thrilled with the English program that we are using now. We are on our second year of using Easy Grammar.

Instead of spending a few weeks on verbs, then moving on to nouns, then adjectives, then adverbs, this program builds with each new chapter. Each lesson provides practice and review of all past lessons and introduces a new concept.

My daughter is really "getting it". We love this thorough approach to grammar.

Short, but Sufficient

by Penny
(Louisiana)

I liked the lessons. They were very self-explanatory for older students. The lessons were short, but taught enough for one day.
