McGuffey - Wonderful "Old Fashioned" Readers

McGuffey Original Eclectic Christian Readers

What a find! I found this set (First through Fourth Readers and Study Guide) at a used homeschool book store, and snapped it up. It is incredible! I did not realize that the McGuffey Readers had been diluted over the years, and was thrilled to find the original readers. The study guide leads the teacher through each lesson, with discussion questions, and an appropriate scripture for each lesson.

The guide states to spend two weeks on each lesson, which we will do eventually. Right now we are beginning with the first reader, as the study guide themes and lessons are so good I want to be sure to cover them, even though my children are 8 and 12, and both read on a 7th grade level or above.

Not only can the lessons be used for reading, and for discussing the lesson theme, but they can be used for copywork, dictation, spelling, grammar, punctuation, etc. It is really a complete language arts program.

The only thing I "dislike" is the fact that there are only four readers! I would love it had there been even more!
