Likes: Miquon is thorough and provides a good understanding of numbers and how they relate to each other. The colorful rods, essential to the program, are very helpful in teaching this concept.

I just had a breakthrough with my son with them and decided to give him the rods before opening the book. We worked some 'made-up' problems and then opened the book and worked some more. There was a "clicking" of the number bonds/addition/subtraction with him (like as in 6, 4, 10).

Dislikes: Could use some more teacher instruction, but this is not insurmountable.
