Prairie Primer

Using the Prairie Primer has been such a blessing for our family. The Prairie Primer is a unit study based on the Little House on the Prairie series written by Laura Ingalls Wilder.

Although the curriculum is intended for 3rd and 4th grade level children, we are successfully using this curriculum with our 6 year old who would be 1st grade level. I think if other things were added in, you could use this for older children also. This unit study covers Bible, Math, History, Grammar, Science, Art, Music and could adapt to just about any subject you would like to include.

We really like all of the things we have created together using this curriculum (covered wagon, butter, etc) and it has been a learning experience for me as well. I also like how the author has included ideas for theme related co-ops or parties.

This curriculum is also wonderful for boys and includes many activities that they also enjoy. The only disadvantage I could even think of is that they are changing the illustrations and covers on all of the little house books. For some this might be a good change, but my daughter has really enjoyed Garth Williams' illustrations. I would highly recommend this curriculum to anyone.
