Wordly Wise

Product: Wordly Wise
Subject: Vocabulary
Levels Used: 7, 8, and 9th grades
Dates Used: past 2 yrs and currently for 9th

Likes: This curriculum is very thorough, with exercises that reinforce both the meaning and spelling of the vocab words and forms of those words.

Includes reviews and exams. The tests are a very good measure of whether mastery has been accomplished. We use the words and forms of those on the list for spelling each week.

My daughter finishes the workbook eagerly as it is a favorite subject. She completes it in the first semester and did Classical Roots the 2nd semester of the last two years.

Dislikes:I do wish they would give more meanings for the listed words. We have to add that to our lessons.

Wordly Wise

Product: Wordly Wise
Subject: Vocabulary
Levels Used: A & B
Dates Used: 2007-2009

Likes: As others have said, I really liked the layout and function of these books. They do well in the teaching and reinforcement throughout the year of the word's use.

We also added an "I Heard That Word" game to our Wordly Wise. Any time during the days or weeks following our lessons, if one of the children heard a Wordly Wise word in normal conversation, on the radio, etc. they could yell out "I heard that word!" We never kept score or even gave any rewards other than a big smile and a "good job" but they really liked finding their school work transferring to life.

Dislikes: I disliked the mentions of evolution in the story sections of these books. It was not in every section and could be worked around but it was irritating to me just the same.

Product:Wordly Wise 3000
Subject: Vocabulary
Levels Used: 4 & 7
Dates Used:2007-2008

Likes: My girls could work independently and they enjoyed doing the work. It is very quick so they felt like they accomplished something quickly.

Dislikes: The last lesson of the week where they had to read and answer questions they found difficult.I assisted them by giving them the vocabulary word that they were supposed to use. I tapered off and by the end they were able to complete the lesson.

Wordly Wise A

by Heather
(Sachse, Tx USA)

I used Wordly Wise A with my son in 2006. He enjoyed learning the new words and their meanings as well as the well laid out activities that reinforced the way in which one would use the words in conversation and in writing. I wish that the words had been more organized into categories, as they seemed a bit random at times. Overall, my son did enjoy their layout and presentation.
