Loving MFW-K!

by Melanie
(Birmingham, AL)

We have been using MFW-K for 9 months and absolutely adore the program. It is so rich and bible-based. I have learned as much as my 5-year old! I love the gentle, hands-on approach--my son is learning without feeling overwhelmed. We check out extra books for our book basket, so we're always reading about our current topic. I can not say enough about MFW! I can't wait to start 1st grade!

My Father's World Kindergarten - wonderful!

by Liesl
(NC)

Product: My Father's World Kindergarten
Subject: Kindergarten, all-inclusive
Levels Used:PreK and K
Dates Used: 2004-2005

Likes: I was able to teach all three of my girls, ages 2.5 -5, at the same time. The weekly theme included Bible, phonics, science, art, etc - all centered around a letter sound and biblical theme.

There were many hands-on activities included, plus an extensive library list that corresponded to each theme. It was very easy to implement, especially for a new homeschooler. The Teacher's Manual was very detailed and helpful.

Dislikes: The only negative I can think of is that the basic weekly activities repeat throughout the year, so the children may get tired of the same phonic activities over and over.

Great for son with ADHD

This is our first year homeschooling, and we are doing Kindergarten for our 5 year old. It has been simple for me to teach, and great for our son. We have been able to condense our 6 day/week unit into a 3 day a week unit, which works well for him. We work our field trips into the lessons, and add or eliminate things if needed.

We did just switch the handwriting sheets to our own. Turns out the D'Nealian form works better for him, so we print our own online. We skip the crafts. He is not into them at all, but I'm sure when I use it again in a couple years for our daughter, she'll get a kick out of them.

I think it has been the perfect amount of all subjects needed for a Kindergartner - especially one who lacks attention. I already ordered My Father's World 1st grade. Ready to customize that one for him, too.

Dislikes: Nothing!

My Father's World Kindergarden

I used this for my daughter who was 4 at the time. It is recommended for children who are 5 but I decided to go ahead and get if for her and take it really slow. I figured whatever she gained from it would just put her that much farther ahead of where she was. I had no intentions of pushing her through the year. She loved it. She picked up so well and asked if we could do it almost every day. She did finish the whole year, and was able to read beginner books by the time we were finished with the year. There are a variety of art and craft projects to do with each letter of the alphabet. We also did Bible stories and lessons. The flash cards that came with it were bright, colorful and realistic. There were different games to play to help the child learn the letter sounds. I would only recommend using this program with a child who already knows the letter names, colors, shapes and can count to at least 10. It is a KINDERGARTEN program. I love this program.
