Story of the World

by Jessica
(Texas)

Product: Story of the World
Subject: History
Levels Used: Volume 1
Dates Used: 2006-2007

Likes: This is one of my favorites. We are about to begin on Volume 2. My daughter told me repeatedly her first year and half of homeschooling that this was her favorite subject!

This summer, as we have reviewed ancient history with her and her younger brother, she remembers all the stories well. If you are interested in narration, this is a great curriculum to help you get started.

I loved the guided questions. When we started, my daughter was six years old and wasn't used to actively listening. After a few lessons, she really got it! Now she is an avid listener and an accomplished narrator! I credit Story of the World!

Buying the activity guide is a MUST. Don't skip it. We loved the worksheets and book lists.

Dislikes: Some of the activities were too hands on for me. I didn't want to cook meals, or make complicated crafts, or make a fossil dig. (I was pregnant at the time and then had an infant so that may have had something to do with it).

I skipped a LOT of the hands on activities. I still feel that the stories, the maps and worksheets, the book lists and narrations were plenty for a well rounded history curriculum. My biggest complaint is that our library did not have many of the books on the lists. I supplemented with similar books. This worked fine for us. It took us a year and a half to finish Volume 1.
