Teaching Textbooks

by Mary
(NC)

We love the format of Teaching Textbooks, but wish it were more challenging. This curriculum is 1-2 grade levels behind what is being taught in our local public schools.

The great thing about this program is that it's so easy a caveman could do it. The concepts are explained in the most simplistic terms and the problems that are assigned are very easy.

The bad thing about this curriculum is that it's so easy a caveman could do it. I have had to keep a careful watch on the lessons in order to make sure my student learns the real way to work the problems- the way that is going to work for more difficult problems, not just the lollipops that Teaching Textbooks throws out there.

I would absolutely recommend this program for very young students who have time to complete the program then go back and take a more thorough algebra sequence before graduation. It is also a great program for students struggling in math. If your child makes it through the algebra I course from Teaching Textbooks, they are prepared to go to high school and take Algebra I there.
