Word Roots

This program brought my son to a new realization about the English language... When he is reading and sees a word he has never seen before (he says "Especially the huge ones") he has learned to break down the word into the roots he has learned through Word Roots and he can establish a preliminary definition, then he can discern more through the context of the sentence... his verbal test scores have shot up over 50% after one year of Word Root study.

My student loved, loved, loved one of these books.

Word Roots workbooks teach the parts of words and it was fun to figure out the meanings of words based on what she learned. For instance, PRE = before. POST = after. Great for building vocabulary!

This was a simple curriculum to use - she pretty much did it on her own and then would tell me what she learned!

It is an awesome way to learn those essential Greek and Latin roots, prefixes.

This is an award winning curriculum! That's nice to know!

Dislikes:
One of the books covers one root or word part each. The other book does 2 on each page. My student much preferred the workbook with one per page because there were more examples to help her commit the information to memory. She thought the other went too fast, so we had to supplement by looking in the dictionary, etc.
