Before Five in a Row

by Laurie
(Wisconsin)

Product: Before Five in a Row (BFIAR)
Subject: Preschool
Levels Used: BFIAR is for children ages two thru four
Dates Used: 2004

Likes: This book has activities for 24, mostly well known, childrens stories. (Good Night Moon, The Snowy Day, Corduroy, Prayer for a Child, The Carrot Seed, and many more) It is a gentle introduction to unit studies, with activities for topics such as art, animals, science, language, music, Bible, math, history, shapes, and more.

The second part of the book provides a multitude of activities for learning readiness in the areas of reading readiness, large and small motor skills, the arts, activities at bath time, in the kitchen, and at the store. There is also a small section of information and resources for parents.
I especially appreciate the author's emphasis on providing readiness skills through play, rather than pushing academic skills at this early age.

Dislikes:
Great stories, creative activities, playing with your young child - what's not to like?
