Five in a Row Curriculum Review

Product:Five in a row
Subject:Unit study
Levels Used: We used Before Five in a Row (BFIAR), Five in a row volumes 1, 2 and 3 (FIAR).

Dates Used: 2003-2005

Likes: We loved Five a row!!! The literature is wonderful, classic children's literature. The stories are beautifully written, thought provoking and wonderfully illustrated.

It taught me how to teach in a natural way, from experiences I already had and how to share new experiences with my children. It is a gentle way of opening the world to children so they can learn about many different things.

Basically, you read a classic children's book five days in a row, each day discovering another subject related to the book. The repeated exposure allows the child to learn about various aspects of the book while seeing the book from a new perspective.

Dislikes:
We didn't mind the research involved in gathering materials with this unit study style of teaching, but others can find it time consuming.
