Five in a Row

by Carla
(Noblesville, IN, USA)

Product: Five in a Row
Subject: Literature based unit study
Levels Used: K-3rd
Dates Used: 2006-2009

Likes: I was fortunate to find this study early in our homeschool journey. We used "Before Five in a Row" for Preschool and then the 3 Five in a Row books as well as the Bible supplement book that offers character studies for each book studied.

The Five in a Row books are a complete curriculum in themselves (besides possibly math) with suggestions of activities to do with each of the well-chosen children's literature books. Activities include art projects and picture studies, discussion of concepts and vocabulary, geography studies, science, and more! It is a great program for those just starting out to ease their children into "school" or busy moms with older children who just want to spend time with their young ones snuggling on the couch with a good book.

Each book we have used has become a favorite for my children. The concept of reading the same book for five days in a row seems repetitive but is so good for younger children who need repetition and structure in a gentle, laid-back setting.

Dislikes: A few of the suggested books are difficult to find, but don't feel like you need to do every book.
