Further Up Further In!

I LOVED Further Up, Further In!

I used this with a group of 6th graders in 2008.

My family looks back on that year we spend in Narnia with much joy! I taught this to a boy and girl at the same time and both were equally enamored.

FUFI is a broad unit study and covers all core subjects. It's character intensive and you'll enjoy walking through subjects like integrity, hard work and perseverance with your child. It's full of challenging puzzles and worksheets, as well as art work, vocabulary, history, science, language arts and even a little math work.

Parents will definitely want to supplement math and language if they are planning to use it as their sole curriculum. Also, FUFI requires a lot of parent participation and advanced planning so that you'll have what you need when you need it!

FUFI for a Large Family

Levels Used: written for ages 11-14
Dates Used: 2002-2003

Likes: The kids loved studying Narnia. I liked the unit study approach, and I liked the way the book was laid out. It was easy to use. It was interesting. We learned a lot of neat things. Vocabulary was strong, language arts strong as well.

Dislikes: Further Up Further In did require me to do more work sometimes, than I had to do with other curriculum that only required me to open a book and read the scheduled pages. I wasn't always sure we were covering subjects evenly, there was no real clear scope and sequence.

Great literature unit!

by Amy
(Olathe, KS, USA)

Levels Used: 5th grade and up
Dates Used: July 2008-Present Day

Likes: I love the richness of the vocabulary, literature study and the use of Bible in each lesson. The critical thinking exercises have proven to challenge my child, helping her to stretch her mind to new horizons. There are a lot of opportunities for drawing and writing so it's been enjoyable for my artsy student!

The notebook suggestion is amazing! I'm finding everything I need to extend lessons at my local library. It's so easy to implement and it takes less than one hour each week to prep. The four day per week schedule is an excellent fit.

Dislikes: I wish the unit had more science and history topics; however, I'm extremely happy with the overall product!
