Language Lessons for the Very Young

by Spetzi
(NJ)

Product: Language Lessons for the Very Young
Subject: Language Arts
Levels Used: 1st grade
Dates Used: 2008-2009

Likes: We enjoyed the colorful pictures and gentle lessons.

Dislikes: I felt this moved slowly, even for Charlotte Mason fans. That was remedied by completing several lessons per day.

My primary complaint was that the child was to often spend weeks copying a poem in archaic English. I believe in exposing children to older poetry. When we ask them to copy we want to help them get a good grasp on our English language. Writing "doth" and other antiquated words are not particularly helpful to a young child getting a grip on the written form of her every day language.

If you are a Charlotte Mason style homeschooler, you might love this. We will not be continuing with this series.
