Old Fashioned Education Review

by Amy

My oldest child had completed an entire year of My Father's World in only 3 months and was bored. I set him on An Old Fashioned Education, and he buried himself in his computer for the next 5 months.

He used the 8th grade level, only the reading, writing, history, biographies portion. He was in 7th grade, 13 yo.

Likes: We could print up the schedule, and he checked off things as he did them. He loved the books, and said reading them was so much richer than most of what he reads of modern books.

Dislikes: I never could really know for sure what he was reading except for when he'd talk ad nauseum about subjects. He did have to tie up a computer pretty much all day to use it. We could have printed the books, but I dislike that option. If it's not bound, why bother? He liked reading online just fine.

It was very Star Trek, and I liked that about it. :)

My Kids Love OFE

I love An Old Fashioned Education. My kids are in Kindergarten, 2nd grade, 4th grade, 5th grade and 8th grade. They all use and love An Old Fashioned Education. Even my 5 year old :)

Old Fashioned Education is Great!

by Pauline
(Arizona, USA)

My 3 year old is starting to read! I knew she was ready but I didn't want to invest in a ton of homeschool books--so I stumbled upon An Old Fashioned Education online and I love it!

You can of course curtail the curriculum to meet your needs but it goes at a good pace and I love the old books. Be sure to read her comments and suggestions--she suggests buying a duplex (can't remember if that is the right name) Brother (brand) printer for about $200 (uses laser ink and prints both sides) and then you can print the books for cheap!

I went to Wal-mart like she said and got all those plastic folders that you can put hole punched paper in and those are my books! A little duck tape down the side and you have a place to write your title!

I could never do this all online--I have to have it in print. I love that I can get quality books like this for free! They don't even have these books at the library.

Did Not Like the Lesson Plans

by Penny

I love the books on this site, but I don't like the lesson plans. I feel that it takes too long to read the books. I started this back in August and then quit. I'm still using some of the books, but not the lesson plans.
