Saxon Phonics Review

by Carletta
(McKinney, Texas)

Product: Saxon Phonics
Subject: Phonics
Levels Used: Kindergarten
Dates Used: 2005-2006

Likes: I used Saxon Phonics when my son was 4 years old. The lessons are well laid out and easy to follow. Each lesson includes alphabet, spelling and handwriting practice. The lessons are also multi-sensory and involve visual, auditory and kinesthetic skills.

Dislikes: My only dislikes of this program are that it is black and white, and not colorful, and the lessons took a bit longer than the Abeka phonics lessons we used for K.

Although we enjoyed the lessons, we did not continue with Saxon phonics because my son was not ready to learn to read. We took a year off, and then taught him to read using Abeka.
