I chose SSRW because at the time that I purchased it my child was only just turning 4. I wanted something fun and colorful, which it was!

Overall I think it is a good program for young beginners. She did well with the beginning readers, and the activity pages were just about right for her.

Dislikes:
We reached a point after the kindergarten book where when was ready to move along a little faster and needed more writing.

The program does not have any cross curricular tie ins. It used to take an hour a day, and it becomes very redundant.
