Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Leasons

by Cheryl
(Sandusky, MI USA)

Product: book: Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Leasons
Subject: Phonics
Levels Used: PreK
Dates Used: Summer 07 and again in Summer 09

Likes: What I did like about this book/program is that it doesn't go in the traditional A,B,C order of teaching your children phonics. It begins and uses the sounds they will see more often, thus enabling them to read more words sooner. I also liked the built in writing practice, although no reproducible pages are included.

Dislikes: I have tried this method on two children now. My first was an almost 5 year old daughter who already knew most of her letter sounds. I don't think she liked the repetition and definitely didn't like the rhyming segments. We only lasted until about lesson 15, then we switched to another phonics program and she took off reading.

I have begun it again now with my 4 1/2 year old son who does not know as many letter sounds. We are only up to lesson 7 but I see it going much better. It is helping him understand how the sounds blend together to make a word. I can't wait to see how it turns out for him!!
