Teach Your Child To Read In 100 Easy Lessons

by Valarie
(Tynan, TX)

Product: Teach Your Child To Read In 100 Easy Lessons
Subject: Phonics/Reading
Dates Used: April - May 2008

Everywhere I looked I kept hearing about this book, so I thought I would try it to teach my daughter to read. We got to lesson 23. I had a very difficult time keeping her attention throughout the lessons, and she remembered very little from the previous lessons. Very, very repetitive and highly scripted (too scripted in my opinion.)

It finally got to the point where all she would be willing to cooperate through was the writing section of each lesson. The book uses DISTAR (?) which is a little distracting. One thing I remember that always got my daughter attention and basically kept it the entire time were the small letters which signified silent letters.

I do want to mention that she was a young 4 yr. old, so maybe she just wasn't ready.

Overall - I don't recommend it.
