Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons

by Jennifer
(Edom, TX)

Product: Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons
Subject: Phonics to Reading
Levels Used: Pre-K to 1st grade
Dates Used: 2001, 2003, 2008

Likes: One time purchases and use with all your children. This book is for the non-reader. If your child can already do phonics they may get bored with this curriculum. I liked that the teacher (me) does not have to do a lot of prep work before the lesson. Just grab the book and cuddle on the sofa with your child and read the script.

The book is in all black and white, no color to distract child from the lesson. The reading part only takes 10 minutes and the writing part about 10 minutes. All of my children started between 4 and 4-1/2 years old, which makes the writing a little difficult, so I made the writing sheets myself in light pencil and then my child would trace over it in marker. Once you work about half the lessons you can add in extra reading fast with BOB books and McGuffey primer because the phonics in both of those match with 100 easy lessons.

Dislikes: After using this book with a couple children, I found that I was teaching the lessons to the next child without the book. So when it was time for him to have a turn at it he didn't like it. So we skipped ahead a lot and he did fine.
