Spelling Power is a single-volume, multi-level spelling program that can be used to teach children in Kindergarten through twelfth grade. Each child is placed into the program by a diagnostic test.
The program uses the 5000 most frequently used words to teach spelling, spelling rules, and phonetics. The book itself serves as a teacher's guide for educators and is non-consumable. Students write their work on separate paper or in a separate book.
Each lesson is approximately fifteen minutes long and begins with a five minute test to review, check for retention of previously learned words, and preview of new words. The next five minutes is spent testing misspelled words, the last five minutes testing new words, and the lesson can be ended with a spelling activity.
The parts of lessons can be taught in various ways by using a multi-sensory approach. Different types of activities are available for each step of learning, and the appendix contains extra spelling activities. Each word shows up on several lists, allowing for built in review of words previously learned and most rules are covered on more than one level.
